During the summer there are over 50 kilometers of beaches to enjoy in Vienna — and not just on the Danube Island and the Old Danube. Trendy city center beach bars along the Danube Canal are the perfect place to cool off. The typical summer schedule includes festivals, operettas, open-air film screenings and balmy evenings in sidewalk cafés and guest gardens. At Vienna’s clubs and discos the evenings simply fly by.

People celebrate all over Vienna in summer – from the fine Beach Festival to the Megafestival. ImPuls Tanz, Europe’s biggest festival of contemporary dance, turns Vienna into the hub of the international dance elite. The MuseumsQuartier invites visitors to the “Summer of Fashion”, which gets underway in June with the exhibition “Kunst und Mode” (“Art and Fashion" in the Museum of Modern Art (mumok) and ends in September with Vienna Fashion Week. “Land des Lächelns” (“The Land of Smiles”) by Franz Lehár is on the program at the Vienna Operetta Summer in the Theresianum Palace Park.

The 21-kilometer Danube Island offers pure beach pleasure for everyone who wants to spend a day at the beach during their city vacation: sandy and pebble beaches, sports facilities, restaurants and bars make summer an even more pleasurable experience. The banks of the Old Danube are lined with nostalgic lidos, boat hire services and the odd restaurant terrace. A creative end to summer is provided by the Viennafair art fair in September (from 2012), while the “Wiener Wiesn” serves up a beer tent atmosphere from the end of September.
